SUMMARY:Attachment: Recent Seismic Developments in Theory\, Research and Pr
 ofessional Practice (Careknowledge)
DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Professor David Shemmings\n\nFree to attend webinar\n
\nAttachment theory has significantly shaped the way social care understan
ds children\, families\, and early relationships. From the early work of J
ohn Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth to its widespread use in assessment\, superv
ision\, and court reporting\, it has become a key lens through which pract
itioners interpret children's experiences and relationships.\n\nBut theory
does not stand still.\n\nIn recent years\, important questions have been
raised about how attachment theory is interpreted\, applied\, and sometime
s simplified in practice. The ongoing and recent work of Dr Sarah Foster a
nd Professor Robbie Duschinsky highlights the need to ask what the evolvin
g understanding of attachment means\, in terms of the evidence base\, the
use of attachment classifications\, and at the assumptions that sit beneat
h our everyday professional language.\n\n What happens when a theory beco
mes embedded in systems?\n Where does nuance get lost?\n And how do we u
se attachment thoughtfully without oversimplification or misplaced certain
ty?\n\nAt the same time\, new research is expanding our understanding of e
arly relational life\, raising further questions about what shapes childre
n’s emotional development and how we conceptualise risk and resilience.\
n\nThis CareKnowledge Live webinar\, in conversation with Professor David
Shemmings\, offers the space to reflect on how our understanding of attach
ment has shifted over time and how it should alter the lens we use to unde
rstand relationships.\n\nTo register your attendance at this free webinar
