SUMMARY:Beyond Technique: Motivational Interviewing\, Power and Ethical Pra
 ctice (Careknowledge)
DESCRIPTION:In partnership with our colleagues at CareKnowledge\, we’re p
leased to share details of this upcoming webinar:\n\nTitle: Beyond Techniq
ue: Motivational Interviewing\, Power and Ethical Practice\n\nDate: Thursd
 ay 18th June 2026\n\nTime: 10am – 12 Midday (on-line)\n\nSpeakers: Frede
rik Eliasson\, Nina Kyriacou and Dr Henry Smith\n\nMotivational interviewi
ng (MI) is a practical\, person-centred approach that helps professionals
have more effective conversations - particularly when people may feel unsu
re\, resistant\, or overwhelmed.  Using MI can support you to build trust
\, explore what matters to individuals and families\, and encourage positi
ve change without judgement.\n\nTarget behaviour? A critical analysis of
motivational interviewing in children and family social work was a rec
ent article written by Nina Kyriacou and Dr Henry Smith.  It highlighte
d how MI’s focus on individual motivation can risk shifting responsibili
ty onto individuals to bring about changes that they are not able to influ
ence because of the social and structural influences shaping their circu
mstances.\n\nThis CareKnowledge Live webinar will provide an opportunity t
o explore an important question:  when is it reasonable to focus on motiv
ation\, and how do we guard against inadvertently placing responsibility
on individuals to change circumstances they can barely influence?  The w
ebinar will also explore how MI can be used ethically in everyday practi
ce.\n\nThe focus is not on developing MI skills but an invitation to think
together about how we work with motivation in ways that are humane\, cont
ext-aware\, and ethically grounded.  As always in CareKnowledge Live\,
the emphasis will be on thoughtful dialogue\, professional curiosity\, an
d the space to think.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nTo register your attendance at this f
