SUMMARY:Introduction to Shame Competence Training Sessions
DESCRIPTION:Introduction to Shame Competence Training is a 2-hour online t
raining workshop that will introduce the idea of ‘shame competence’\,
relevant for those interested in trauma-informed approaches to policing an
d related care and social services.\n\nThe training will cover the followi
ng topics:\n\n I) Why is Understanding Shame Important?\n II) What is Sh
ame?\n\nIII) The Shame Compass\n\n IV) Recognising Shaming\n\nThe trainin
g will be delivered by Professor Luna Dolezal from the University of Exet
er\, who has developed this evidence-based training in collaboration with
the Devon and Cornwall Police and the OPCC. Training will be delivered via
MSTeams.\n\nWithin policing\, along with other care and human services\,
understanding shame\, and its impacts and effects\, has\, to date\, not be
an explicit focus of training or practice. There exists evidence and rese
arch that demonstrates links between shame and a number of policing releva
nt issues and behaviours\, such as: trauma\, violence and violent crime\,
domestic abuse\, sexual violence\, exploitation\, terrorism and radicaliza
 tion\, offender decision making\, mass shootings\, anti-police attitudes\,
gang violence\, honour killings\, looting and spontaneous street violence
\, among others. Shame is also directly related to disengagement\, withdra
wal\, non-attendance and is a profound force that can impact outcomes in c
are and social services. As a result\, practitioners will benefit from a d
eeper awareness and understanding about shame\, along with competence abou
t how to recognize and manage shame dynamics.\n\nThe aim of the shame comp
etence training is to enable individuals and organizations to begin to cre
ate and systematise nuanced and collaborative understandings of how shame
is produced and experienced as a result of particular interactions\, exper
iences\, policies and practice\, enhancing organizational and individual e
motional intelligence\, in order to understand the impacts and effects of
shame within professional practice.\n\nThere are 6 upcoming sessions\, any
one who is interested can attend at no-cost\, on a first come\, first serv
ed basis:\n\nRegistration via these Eventbrite pages: Click here
