Recognising and Responding to Neglect (Group 3)

This training is a Special Interest Refresher, this can be attended in addition to your usual Group 3 training/refresher. This is attended via Zoom.

Members of the workforce who work predominantly with children, young people and/or their parents and carers and who could potentially contribute to assessing, planning, intervening and reviewing the needs of a child and parenting capacity where there are safeguarding concerns.  For example, paediatricians, GPs, midwives, school nurses, nurses, health visitors, residential staff, teachers, youth workers, probation staff, sports club welfare offices, church, faith and uniformed groups, those working with adults in, for example, learning disability, mental health, alcohol and drug misuse services and the police.

At the end of the session delegates will be able to:

  • Recognise and respond to the signs and symptoms of neglect
  • Feel informed about the tools and resources available to support you to recognise and respond to neglect
  • Understand the impact of both short and long term (cumulative) neglect on children and adolescents
  • Be more confident to work with families in a way which effectively supports them to address neglect
  • Understand the importance of having courageous conversations with families about neglect and poor parental care
  • Identify the key features of assessing neglect effectively
  • Implement appropriate interventions to reduce the risk and prevent cases from drifting
  • Recognise the changing features of neglect with the age of the child

Cancellation Policy – unless there are extenuating circumstances, you will be charged if you don’t attend or if you cancel your place less than 4 weeks before the training date. Even if the training is fully funded by the Devon Safeguarding Children Partnership (DSCP), we still maintain the right to charge as non-attendance prevents someone else from attending. We will invoice your organisation for £130 .

This course is fully-funded for Partners (including Health (NHS), Education (EY), Children Services, Probation). Other organisations may have to pay (please check if you are funded). We charge £130 for late cancellation or non-attendance.
