Pride month and LGBTQ+ groups in Devon
This month is LGBTQ+ Pride Month – a time to celebrate LGBTQ+ people across the world, campaign for equal opportunities, and highlight the issues facing the LGBTQ+ community.
Due to coronavirus (COVID-19), Pride month celebrations have been slightly different this year, but Pride remains a visible reminder that we are all worthy of living, worthy of loving, and worthy of being loved for who we are.
It is also a timely reminder that there is a great range of empowering support and social groups for LGBTQ+ young people in Devon.
Devon’s youth service, Space, run X-Plore, a youth group providing a safe developmental space for LGBTQ young people in Devon. X-Plore is still taking place during the pandemic, and anyone interested in getting involved should email xploreyouthdevon@gmail.com.
Intercom Trust is a lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans+ charity working across Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and the wider South West, providing a range of support, including advocacy, counselling and training. A directory of LGBTQ+ social groups and events in Devon is also available on the Intercom Trust website.
And for anyone struggling with new levels of isolation, domestic abuse and family tensions during lockdown, Switchboard, the LGBT+helpline, is still open. If you need help and support, you can call the helpline on 0300 330 0630.
