Youth voice opportunities in June 2023

Devon Youth Council exists to get the voice of young people heard and to make a positive change. We’re continuing to grow and develop our youth council, and there are lots of opportunities coming up that we’d love to have you involved in!

Upcoming opportunities this month include attending our Youth Voice Saturday, taking part in an International Essay Contest or becoming an #iwill Ambassador.

If you’d like to get involved with any of these events, please email ukyouthparliament@devon.gov.uk. You can also sign up to the Devon Youth Council Network here.

Attend our Youth Voice Saturday event

The next Youth Voice Saturday will be taking place on 17 June and will focus on 16+ life transitions. And if you’re wondering what we mean by life transitions, we’re talking any of big changes that you face after age 16 – such as leaving school, starting work, going to university, leaving care or moving from children’s services to adult’s services.

If you’d like to attend, you can book your place at our Youth Voice Saturday here.

Take part in an International Essay Contest

As part of the UNESCO’s Education for Sustainable Development, there is a worldwide essay contest that invites young people to write a short essay on the theme of “Youth Creating a Peaceful Future”. What does a peaceful world look like to you? How can young people work together, using creative ideas and approaches to realize a peaceful future? They want to hear your specific ideas! For more information, visit the Goi Peace Foundation website. The deadline for entries is the 15 June.

Make a difference and become an #iwill Ambassador

Young people aren’t just the leaders of tomorrow. We have the energy, skills and ideas to change society and the environment for a better today. Too often society fails to listen to young people’s views and recognise our ability to make a positive difference. That’s where #iwill Ambassadors come in. #iwill Ambassadors help drive social action through working and campaigning within local communities to shape and lead positive change.

For more information, visit the #iwill website. The closing date is 11 June.
