Youth voice opportunities – October 2022 update

Devon Youth Council exists to get the voice of young people heard and to make a positive change. We’re continuing to grow and develop our youth council, and there are lots of opportunities coming up that we’d love to have you involved in!

Upcoming opportunities include the chance to have your say on mental health services and giving your opinions about our new Child Friendly Devon branding.

If you’d like to get involved with any of these events, please email ukyouthparliament@devon.gov.uk. You can also sign up to the Devon Youth Council Network here.

Share your views on healthcare in Devon

Children and Family Health Devon Young Leaders are looking for young people’s input on their manifesto for change in healthcare services. They want to know if you agree with the things that are currently included in the manifesto as well as what else you think should be in it. Take a look and get involved by completing the Manifesto for Change survey.

Make a difference for mental health

Our next Youth Council Network meeting will be held online, and we will be reviewing the action planned at the Youth Voice Saturday event.

Have your say and take part in a national survey by the Children’s Commissioner

The Big Summer Survey forms part of the Children’s Commissioner’s Independent Review into family life, which will inform the Government about the best ways to support families across the country, including what role schools can play.

The survey takes less than 10 minutes and is a great activity for anyone aged 7-17. The Big Summer Survey will close on 24 October.

Speak up about loneliness and rural isolation through a BBC documentary

We have been asked if there are any young people who want to take part in a BCC report about rural isolation and loneliness. At the moment we don’t know when this will happen or any specific details, but it would be great to have a group of young people ready and willing for when we do get the call. If you have experienced rural isolation or loneliness, or want to speak up about this issue, please get in touch.

Take part in interviewing

Although we don’t currently have any opportunities to be involved in interviewing any workers for posts, we can make sure that you are top of the list when we need to contact young people for these opportunities. So, if you are interested in having your say and making a difference this way, do let us know. We always provide you with plenty of support and explain everything that will happen.

Make a difference and promote youth voice

You can make a difference for more young people by letting people know about the Youth Council and all the opportunities mentioned above. Make sure you follow us on social media to keep up to date with opportunities to have your say and get your voice heard and share these opportunities with friends. We are committed to getting the voice of young people heard and need your help to get your friends involved and speaking up on the issues that are important to them.
