All of the services supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) were inspected in December 2018.
As a result, Devon County Council and NHS Devon were asked to make improvements in four areas:
- Understanding of our strategy
- Improving communication
- Timeliness of Education Health and Care Plans
- Improving support for children with Autism
The inspection told us that our strategy and action plans are sound and the response to younger children with more complex needs works well.
Improvements have now been made in the production of individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) but there is still a long way to go.
We know that families of children with SEND need the system to work well together and with them if the complex needs of their children are to be met, their children are to flourish in childhood and be ready to embrace all the challenges and opportunities that life has to offer.
All partners will work closely together to ensure the required improvements are delivered quickly and effectively.
A draft written statement of action is being prepared and submitted in May. There will be a re-inspection in November 2020.
We have been listening to parents, children and staff. Thank you for your ideas if you have already contributed. We have used the feedback we have received to write the plan.

Have we got this right?
We need your comments before Wednesday 24th April 2019 so that we can finalise this plan.
We want to keep listening and so we will keep these communication routes open and other face-to-face opportunities through forums and events.
