Tools to Assess Neglect (Graded Care Profile 2 Training)

When

17/11/2025
1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Before attending this course, you should have a good understanding of neglect, be able to recognise the signs and indicators of neglect and understand the impact of neglect on children.

This Graded Care Profile 2 (GCP2) session is designed to help practitioners assess and address neglect in children.

Graded Care Profile 2  is an assessment tool that supports practitioners to make a judgement about whether or not parental care is neglectful.  The tool helps practitioners to measure the quality of care given to a child and can make it easier for professionals to spot when sub-optimal parenting is putting a child at risk of harm.

KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  1. Recognising and Responding to Neglect: Participants will gain a further insight into the effects of neglect, the importance of responding without delay, as well as recognising the impact of cumulative neglect and how we can help prevent this using the GCP2 tool.
  2. Using the GCP2 Tool: The course will grow skills and confidence in the use of the GCP2 assessment tool. This tool helps measure the quality of care provided to a child and identify areas where the level of care needs improvement.
  3. Strengthening Decision-Making: Increase confidence in decision-making at all levels by providing a clear framework for assessing and addressing neglect.
  4. Promoting Multi-Agency Working: Encouraging collaboration among professionals from different agencies, creating a common language and improving the quality and consistency of neglect assessments.
  5. Practical Application: The course includes practical activities where participants can apply the GCP2 tool to real-life case studies, enhancing their skills and confidence in using the tool.
