 Learning outcomes:

  • Explore the thinking, anxieties and fears that might be getting in the way of you having meaningful, preventative and safe conversations about child sexual abuse
  • Understand what effective education around child sexual abuse might look like
  • Question the biases, misconceptions and myths around child sexual abuse that might be fuelling fears and anxieties
  • Understand some of the most common fears that parents, carers, educators and other professionals have around conversations about child sexual abuse
  • Explore what might help adults to feel more confident in discussing the topic of child sexual abuse in an age appropriate, safe way
  • Think about some of the larger societal and cultural narratives that may be impacting how you think and feel about child sexual abuse education and sexual health education in general

When we think about educational prevention around child sexual abuse, we often think about what we should be teaching and speaking to children and young people about.

  • But what might education around child sexual abuse reveal about the fears, misconceptions, anxieties and biases that the adults in the room are feeling?
  • What can we do to address this in professionals, carers and parents, that may in turn encourage all adults to always create safe spaces – not just in the classroom – where children and young people can speak about what they’re experiencing?

Through three conversations with those who have lived experience and specialist educators, the webinar will explore the types of thinking and feeling which can create meaningful, preventative, and safe conversations around child sexual abuse.  If you are a professional or a carer concerned about the rising, endemic issue of child sexual abuse in all its forms, and want to understand more about how conversations and thinking can strengthen the fight against it, this webinar is for you.
