Multi Agency Safeguarding and Child Protection (Group 3 Core)

This course is suitable for staff and volunteers who work with children, young people, families and parents or carers where they are in a position to identify signs of child abuse or neglect and who may then be asked to contribute to assessing, planning or intervening and reviewing the needs of the child and parenting capacity where there are safeguarding concerns. This course is also suitable for Designated Safeguarding Officers and Deputies.

This multi-agency safeguarding training incorporates the competencies described in Working Together 2023 and the Intercollegiate Document: Safeguarding Children & Young People.

We have adapted our face-to-face training so that the Group 3 Safeguarding and Child Protection Course is now delivered virtually.  It is a blend of digital, on-line, e-learning and home study. All tasks must be completed for you to qualify for your certificate.

There is a cost of £130 to attend the Group 3 Core training for non-funded organisations.

Child Protection Group 3 Refresher

This refresher course falls in line with the requirements of Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023 and the NHS Collegiate document. You can complete this safeguarding course when your training requires updating and you have previously completed our Multi Agency Safeguarding and Child Protection Group 3 Core training. An interactive course that has a focus on levels of need, and child protection definitions. The course develops participants understanding of risk within child safeguarding practice, by breaking down risk in a way that enables delegates to assess and analyse risk, and monitor the risk trajectory. It moves on to cover creating outcome focussed plans to manage and reduce risk effectively.

There is a cost of £130 to attend the Refresher training for non-funded organisations.

Dealing with Difficult and Resistant Behaviour

This training may also be referred to as ‘Courageous Conversations’This course can help you to broach difficult subjects with parents/carers (both early help and needing to make a referral to children’s social care); can help you to feel safe and confident in having courageous conversations with families; will help you consider the responses we may receive from parents/ carers and how lived experience impacts on the response. this is funded by us to attend. These will be once a month.

Tools to Assess Neglect (Graded Care Profile 2)

This is an assessment tool that supports practitioners to make a judgement about whether or not parental care is neglectful. The tool helps practitioners to measure the quality of care given to a child and make it easier for professionals to spot when sub-optimal parenting is putting a child at risk of harm. Run over 2 sessions, 4.5 hours in total.

A multi-agency approach to Restorative Practice workshop

This invites you to build on the skills and knowledge outlined in our Restorative Practice e-learning module. This is a one-day workshop facilitated by Devon Restorative Practice Advisers and Learning & Development colleagues.

Workshops will be delivered “face to face” in each Devon locality.  By using a range of practitioners based and working in Devon, we are also able to offer follow-up and on-going restorative support and assistance to you and your teams helping to embed learning in day-to-day practice.

Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) training

We now offer live Teams training every 3 months facilitated by a LADO. This is the preferred way for you to develop your knowledge and understanding about the LADO service. This will give you an opportunity to meet some of the team and to ask any questions.  The LADO training is aimed at all staff and volunteers who are in regular contact with children and young people.

This is funded to attend.

Recognising and Responding to Neglect

This training is a Special Interest Refresher, this can be attended in addition to your usual Group 3 training/refresher.

Members of the workforce who work predominantly with children, young people and/or their parents and carers and who could potentially contribute to assessing, planning, intervening and reviewing the needs of a child and parenting capacity where there are safeguarding concerns.  For example, paediatricians, GPs, midwives, school nurses, nurses, health visitors, residential staff, teachers, youth workers, probation staff, sports club welfare offices, church, faith and uniformed groups, those working with adults in, for example, learning disability, mental health, alcohol and drug misuse services and the police.

Right for Children

Right for Children is the IT platform for recording all Early Help support for families in Devon. This training covers, among other things: what Early Help looks like in Devon (the local offer); Working Together (statutory guidance) / Multi-Agency; Early Help Triage; Practitioner Forums.

Thresholds, Duties and Family Rights Workshop (replaces Level of Needs sessions)

These sessions replace the Levels of Need sessions, it is held via Teams

Learning Event Aim: 

  • To provide a greater multi-agency understanding of thresholds, duties and family rights for family safeguarding

Session Outline: 

  • Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023 and increased expectations for greater collaboration to strengthen multi-agency working
  • Explore what help, support and protection is in Devon
  • Reminder of the law and legislative guidance in respect to how families should be helped and supported
  • Consider whether help and support is effective in Devon – is it preventing the need for more significant intervention in family life?
  • Reflect on our culture, values and how we demonstrate this to families
