Confidence in attending Child Protection Conference

This course is for practitioners working with children, young people and families who may have to attend a Child Protection Conference as part of their role and want to feel more confident about contributing and contributing to the child protection processes.

Target audience – range of multi-agency professionals who work with children and are likely to need to attend a Child Protection Conference. You may have already attended a conference or you may be new to the process. It is open to all professionals who either wish to update their knowledge or to learn about the process.

Aim of the Course – To learn about the structure and processes associated with a Child Protection Conference and the methods and responsibilities of those involved.

Tools to Assess Neglect (Graded Care Profile 2)

Tools to assess neglect is an assessment tool that supports practitioners to make a judgement about whether or not parental care is neglectful. The tool helps practitioners to measure the quality of care given to a child and make it easier for professionals to spot when sub-optimal parenting is putting a child at risk of harm. Run over 2 sessions, 4.5 hours in total.

Making Sense of Neglect Group 3 Refresher

If your safeguarding training needs updating and you have previously attended the Group 3 Core, you can now attend this course as a refresher.

Who is this training for?

This training is for staff and volunteers at all levels who work with children, young people, families, and parents or carers. It’s designed for those who are in a position to identify signs of child abuse or neglect. You might also be involved in assessing, planning, intervening, and reviewing the needs of the child and parenting capacity when there are concerns. It’s also suitable for Designated Safeguarding Officers and Deputies.

Key Learning Objectives 

• Understand Neglect: Know how to define neglect and understand how it’s different from other types of abuse.
• Identify Signs and Influencing Factors: Spot the physical, emotional, and behavioural signs of neglect.
• Impact: Understand how neglect impacts across the life of the child.
• Engagement: Engaging families when neglect is a concern.
• Assessments: Understand the effective steps to take when assessing a suspected case of neglect.
• Drift and Delay: Find out more about how we can reduce the risk of long term, low-level neglect.
• Information Sharing and Professional Curiosity: Learn why these are important skills, and how to use them in the context of child neglect.

There is a cost of £130 to attend the Refresher training for non-funded organisations.

Multi Agency Safeguarding and Child Protection (Group 3 Core)

This course is suitable for staff and volunteers who work with children, young people, families and parents or carers where they are in a position to identify signs of child abuse or neglect and who may then be asked to contribute to assessing, planning or intervening and reviewing the needs of the child and parenting capacity where there are safeguarding concerns. This course is also suitable for Designated Safeguarding Officers and Deputies.

This multi-agency safeguarding training incorporates the competencies described in Working Together 2023 and the Intercollegiate Document: Safeguarding Children & Young People.

We have adapted our face-to-face training so that the Group 3 Safeguarding and Child Protection Course is now delivered virtually. It is a blend of digital, online, e-learning and home study. All tasks must be completed for you to qualify for your certificate.

There is a cost of £130 to attend the Group 3 Core training for non-funded organisations.

Introduction to Restorative Practice Workshops

A Multi-agency approach to Restorative Practice Workshop invites you to build on the skills and knowledge outlined in our Restorative Practice e-learning module.

This is a one-day workshop facilitated by Devon Restorative Practice Advisors and Learning & Development colleagues.

Workshops will be delivered “face to face” in each Devon locality. By using a range of practitioners based and working in Devon, we are also able to offer follow-up and on-going restorative support and assistance to you and your teams helping to embed learning in day-to-day practice.

Understanding the Role of the Special Guardianship Support team

These lunch-time one hour bite-size workshops have been designed to give you more information about the role of the Special Guardian Support Team, how they fit in with other service and will provide you with examples of the Special Guardian Support Team practice. More and more Special Guardian Order’s are being used for permanence for children, so this session will provide some work stories and provide you with more details about what the team does. No interaction required although there will be an opportunity for Q&As.

This is funded to attend.

Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) training

We now offer live Teams training every 3 months facilitated by a LADO. This is the preferred way for you to develop your knowledge and understanding about the LADO service. This will give you an opportunity to meet some of the team and to ask any questions. The LADO training is aimed at all staff and volunteers who are in regular contact with children and young people.

This is funded to attend.

If you cannot attend the Teams training there is a PowerPoint presentation you can access which will cover the same information.

ICON training – Bitesize sessions via Teams

Who should attend these bitesize webinars?

Anyone involved with supporting or working with children and families (voluntary or paid staff) including Family Practitioners, Social Workers, Early Years & Childcare practitioners, Health visitors, Community Health Workers and staff nurses. Family Hub staff and practitioners, education Pastoral Support staff, church, faith and voluntary sector community groups.

ICON Training: 

Abusive head trauma is a devastating condition that can occur when a person shakes a baby. This short training provides key information for professional who come into contact with parents. The aim is to raise awareness and providing strategies and prevention information within the ICON intervention that can prevent babies being shaken. If you work directly with families this training would really benefit you.

Navigating Adolescent Vulnerabilities

Alongside the launch of our multi‑agency Child Exploitation and Contextual Safeguarding Strategy, the Devon SCP are hosting a series of practical online sessions, and we would like to invite colleagues and teams from across the partnership to take part.

Cancellations and Non-Attendance – Terms & Conditions

Cancellations – you or your organisation will be charged if we don’t receive you cancellation at least 4 weeks before the training date or tell us about someone who will attend in your place.

• Non-attendance – if you don’t turn up or arrive late/leave early, we reserve the right to charge you or your organisation.
• What will I be charged? £65 per person
• Extenuating Circumstances – you will not be charged if there are circumstances beyond your control which have had an impact on your ability to attend a course. Generally, they are circumstances of a medical or personal nature that are out of your control, and which could not be prevented. They must have had a significant impact on your ability to attend, for example, significant illness, bereavement, having to attend court, being a victim of crime or another acute trauma. It is important to remember that only the most serious extenuating circumstances will be considered.

Check out the Training and Events Calendar for coming training sessions and events. We have training advertised from May 2024 to March 2025. If you would like to attend one of these sessions, please click onto the ‘View Event’ button of your chosen training, this will give you further course information.

There will be an option to ‘Book a Place’ if you already have a DEL (Devon Electronic Learning) account, if you click that it will take you through to the booking page on DEL for that course.

What if you do not have a DEL account?

There is an option to fill in the training request form. Once we receive this the administrator will create a DEL account for you to be able to book onto the course.

Please note that by completing this form does not automatically mean you have been allocated a place.

Some courses have a cost of £130 to attend for organisations that do not pay into the DSCP ‘pot’. We will make the cost clear to you when your request for a DEL account is dealt with.

DEL (Devon Electronic Learning) (for those who already have an account)

This is the platform for booking courses, accessing eLearning and video learning. When you access this platform, you should ‘land’ on a Dashboard. This varies for different departments for example if we in DSCP set up your account you will land on our Dashboard if you are an Early Years colleague you will land on their Dashboard.

The Dashboard is set out so that it is as customer friendly as possible, under each heading (button) there will be a list of courses or learning.

For Example on DSCP Dashboard under Safeguarding, MASH (now known as Front Door) and Early Help you will find – Child Protection Group 3 Refresher, Dealing with Difficult and Resistant Behaviour (also referred to as Courageous Conversations), Multi Agency Safeguarding and Child Protection Group 2 Core eLearning and Multi Agency Safeguarding and Child Protection Group 3 Core training etc .

In the top right-hand corner of your screen there is a search function. Also, on the landing Dashboard page there are frequently asked questions to assist you to navigate around the platform.

How to Access a Certificate after training is completed

Please log into your DEL account via this link https://devon.learningpool.com/login/index.php, put in your user name and password.

On the top ribbon you will see ‘My Learning’ click on this it will dropdown, choose either ‘My Booking-then Past Bookings or Record of Learning’ then click onto the title of the training you require your certificate for, this will take you to the page you require, scroll down until you reach the evaluation (please complete this if there is one for that course) once completed it will release your certificate, which will be located beneath the evaluation.
