Every Baby Matters – every sleep matters

Safer sleep advice matters for every sleep, day and night

The safest place for a baby to sleep is in their own clear, flat and firm sleep space, such as a cot or Moses basket, in the same room as their parent or carer.

The key messages are simple:

▪ Place the baby on their back for every sleep
▪ Keep the cot or sleep space clear
▪ Use a firm, flat and waterproof mattress
▪ Keep the baby’s environment smoke-free
▪ Help the baby avoid becoming too hot
▪ Share a room with the baby for at least the first six months
