Confidence in Attending Child Protection Conference

This course is for practitioners working with children, young people and families who may have to attend a Child Protection Conference as part of their role and want to feel more confident about contributing and contributing to the child protection processes.

Target audience  – range of multi-agency professionals who work with children and are likely to need to attend a Child Protection Conference. You may have already attended a conference or you may be new to the process. It is open to all professionals who either wish to update their knowledge or to learn about the process. Professionals may include (but not exclusive to this list):

  • Health Services (GPs, health visitors, midwives, school nurses)
  • School & education staff
  • Early Help practitioners
  • Probation
  • Children’s Services Staff (domestic abuse practitioners, mental health practitioners, family practitioners)
  • Children Centre staff and Early Years & Childcare practitioners
  • CAMHs, Community Mental Health Team,
  • Youth Workers

Ideally, delegates should complete the Group 3 Core Multi-Agency Safeguarding & Child Protection course – Course: Multi-Agency Safeguarding and Child Protection (Group 3 Core)

Aim of the Course

To learn about the structure and processes associated with a Child Protection Conference and the methods and responsibilities of those involved.

Learning Outcomes

  • Information about the current structure and style of a conference (strength based and restorative)
  • Importance of including the children’s views
  • What is expected of you – your role and your responsibilities
  • The role of the child protection conference chair
  • reports to conferences – how to write them, where to send them and what should be included
  • Timescales
  • Decision making process
  • outcomes of a plan, process and monitoring progress
  • differences between child in need and child protection
  • child protection process beyond conference

 

Cancellation Terms

Cancellation Policy – unless there are extenuating circumstances, you will be charged if you don’t attend or if you cancel your place less than 4 weeks before the training date. Even if the training is fully funded by the Devon Safeguarding Children Partnership (Devon SCP), we still maintain the right to charge as non-attendance prevents someone else from attending. We will invoice your organisation for £130
