ONLINE COURSES MARCH – APRIL 2026 (DATES ON LINK BELOW)

CoLab Exeter has been supporting women facing multiple disadvantage since 2017, including those facing rough sleeping, homelessness, domestic and sexual violence and abuse, substance misuse and involvement in the justice system.   As part of this, we have been identifying and exploring the needs of adult women who are at risk of involvement in the sex industry with a specific focus on those facing sexual exploitation due to their limited circumstances.

Whilst there is clear legislation in relation to protection of children under the age of 18, there is no statutory definition in relation to adult sexual exploitation for those aged 18+.   This leaves many women without adequate protection and support.   This training will give an overview of work to date and explore options for improved support.

Through funding from the Office for the Police & Crime Commissioner, we are now able to offer multiple online 3 hour training events to a wide range of staff across the system, which will also include an opportunity to gain a wider picture of the needs of those affected in both rural and urban areas across Devon.

All participants will have access to a free copy of the ‘Out of the Shadows’ sexual exploitation toolkit.

The training will include:

  • Definitions of sexual exploitation and grooming
  • Who may be vulnerable
  • Risks, issues and signs
  • Complexities of supporting adults being sexually exploited (how it can present)
  • Transitions from young person to adulthood
  • Safeguarding frameworks
  • Good practice re. responding to Adult Sexual Exploitation
  • Signposting and other resources/support

Teas and coffee will be provided.
