Understanding the Importance of Children and Young People Who Go Missing

Aim: Provide learners with knowledge as to why young people (YP) go missing and their role in responding to and reducing this from happening.

Learning Objectives: By the end of this course learners will be able to:
- Explain what makes a young person vulnerable to going missing (i.e. push and pull factors).
- Identify the risks posed when a young person goes missing and assessing risk to
- safeguard the young person.
- Recognise the differences between known and hidden missing.
- Discuss the importance of Return Home Conversations and how this supports further intervention work to prevent and/or reduce missing incidents in the future.
Know their role and of all agencies and individuals when a young person goes missing and subsequent problem-solving activities to prevent/ reduce future missing episodes (including legislation).
