Making Sense of Child Neglect (Group 3)

This training replaces the Recognising and Responding to Neglect Group 3 Refresher.

Key Learning Objectives 

  • Understand Neglect: Know how to define neglect and understand how it’s different from other types of abuse.
  • Identify Signs and Influencing Factors: Spot the physical, emotional, and behavioural signs of neglect.
  • Impact:  Understand how neglect impacts across the life of the child.
  • Engagement:  Engaging families when neglect is a concern.
  • Assessments: Understand the effective steps to take when assessing a suspected case of neglect.
  • Drift and Delay: Find out more about how we can reduce the risk of long term, low-level neglect.
  • Information Sharing and Professional Curiosity: Learn why these are important skills, and how to use them in the context of child neglect.

Who is this training for?

This training is for staff and volunteers at all levels who work with children, young people, families, and parents or carers. It’s designed for those who are in a position to identify signs of child abuse or neglect.  You might also be involved in assessing, planning, intervening, and reviewing the needs of the child and parenting capacity when there are concerns. It’s also suitable for Designated Safeguarding Officers and Deputies.

All of these events take place online from 9.15am to 2.15pm, could you add “you need to be able to attend for the whole session – please don’t book if you can only attend for a couple of hours as the training will not be recorded.

Cost:   no charge for partners in police, health, education or children’s services

£130 for statutory, private and independent sector

£65 for charities or community interest companies
